FEBRUARY KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for February 2018:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 5,680 head (or 0.9%) for the month ending February 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 38,050 head (or 6.5%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter decreased by 1,450 head (or 4.7%) for the month ending February 2018 compared with the previous month and decreased by 1,570 head (or 5.0%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 9,300 head (or 1.5%) for the month ending February 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 84,440 head (or 15.5%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter was largely steady, decreasing by 4,590 head (or 0.2%) for the month ending February 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 3,710 head (or 0.2%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter increased by 280 head (or 0.1%) for the month ending February 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 20,600 head (or 4.8%) year-on-year.
